Building Homes: Manila 2014
Our 3 year journey with Gawad Kalinga (GK) has came to an end. Woh Hup embarked on this charity project in 2012, the partnership with GK has seen us through completion of 30 homes in Dr. Jose Rizal Village for the less fortunate in 3 years.
A total of 10,540 man-hours contributed by 680 Woh Hup staff volunteers helped to build 30 homes in three years. This mission was not only a great success where we completed our goal of building the houses, friendships were forged along the way, creating a bond among staff.
In the month of November, over a period of 4 weeks, a total of 231 staff from Head Office, four Woh Hup projects – Overseas Family School, Corals, Cairnhill and 311 (Jasmine Court) – and both our sister company, Aurum Land (Private) Limited and Tanglin Corporation Private Limited, took turns to make 4 days 3 nights trips to the village.
Various items were donated this year such as clothes, toys and stationery, which were repacked by GK and a handful of staff. These donations were presented to the villagers by Executive Director Mr Neil Yong on his visit. On the last trip, Executive Directors, Mr Eugene Yong and Mr Yong Derong, led by example and got down and dirty while working alongside staff to complete tasks on hand.
To conclude our three year teambuilding with GK, a celebration dinner was held on 29 Nov at Bellevue Hotel’s ballroom and the 30 beneficiaries, GK team and The Chain Reaction Project (TCRP) team were invited to join us.
Before dinner commence, a token of appreciation was presented to the GK team and TCRP team for all the assistance and making this journey a beautiful and meaningful one. In the spirit of Christmas, each family was presented with a Christmas hamper which include an electric fan, a folding mattress, spaghetti noodles and sauce, toothbrushes, toothpaste and many other necessities.
A big thank you to all who contributed to this accomplishment. No matter how big or small your contributions are, all of you have definitely made a difference to the community and touched the hearts of many in the process. It has definitely been a very rewarding experience for both individuals and the company. The efforts we have put into this project has been rewarded by the many smiles that we have received and the happiness that we have witnessed.
