Woh Hup OCIP to Yangon, Myanmar

It is always comforting to know that a little help rendered can better the lives of many.

In the last quarter of 2018, we embarked on an overseas community involvement project (OCIP) to Yangon, Myanmar.  We partnered Mercy Relief for the project named “Water for Life” to build water supply systems in three villages – Tha Pyat Taw, Warnet Chaung and KaLargone – situated in Hwambi Township. With ready supply of water, villagers are also educated on sanitation and hygiene practices.

A total of 120 staff from our Singapore and Myanmar offices volunteered and helped build the water supply system in Tha Pyay Taw village over the course of four 4-days 3-nights trips in October and November 2018.  The volunteers toiled away under harsh weather conditions, but all was compensated by the villagers’ hospitality and delectable homecooked meals.

Executive Director Mr. Yong Derong also joined the volunteers during the last trip where he officiated the project by turning on one of the completed and functional taps in the village to show the water flow.  He also gave out food supplies to all 107 households in the village and visited the primary school in KarLargone to give some stationeries to the young students.

Some 4,200 villagers across the 3 villages will benefit from the project and this would not have been possible without our volunteers who sacrificed their personal time to help others.  We hope that we can continue to inculcate the beauty of giving in everyone through this and future community projects.
